About Nicole’s program:
Program: Yonsei South Korea, a 6-week program during Summer B 2017
Program cost: $3,000 in total, $2,200 for 2 courses and $800 for housing (student dorms), food was not included
Advice from Nicole:
If you are planning on traveling in South Korea use Naver. It is their version of Google and is what she used for navigation with maps.
In addition, they do not accept Discover credit cards. Researching the country beforehand can help you figure out information like this.
Be cautious about “do I really need this” when shopping and spending while abroad.
Nicole had a few issues with paperwork for financial aid between USF and Yonsei and wanted to note that the time difference can play a factor in miscommunication while traveling.
Booking her flight through the actual airline website was beneficial because when any issues arose they could talk to a representative from that company in the airport.
Searching the country you are traveling to on Youtube can give you some great tips. Nicole learned that there were underground shops with merchandise cheaper than boutiques to help buy her souvenirs.
How Nicole afforded her trip:
Nicole was able to receive scholarships to cover the cost of her program.
Although a flight to Asia was about $1,400 for Nicole, the cost of living in South Korea was much cheaper. She only spent about $1,000 on food and travel during her program.
Using the subway over taxis is a great way to travel like a local and save money.
