About Miriam’s program:
Program: USF in Russia Summer 2017, 4 week program, language courses
Program cost: About $5,000 that included 2 courses, housing in a dorm at the university, weekend trips, and field trips along with the courses
Advice from Miriam:
Going to Russia was a great way to visit a country she had been studying and practice her language skills. Also, it was easier to get a visa in through the study abroad program because she had help from her study abroad professor.
She recommends looking up culture tips for your destination. They may have advice that could help you save money, but also tips for customs in that area.
Don’t forget to inform your bank and your credit card company that you will be traveling outside of the country.
Getting the metro app is very helpful as well as Google translate. You can use it to take pictures of signs and it will translate it for you!
How Miriam afforded her trip:
Miriam received the Global Citizen Project scholarship, which covered about half of her program. She had to attend a few events and write reflections about her experiences.
She has always had savings from working even before college and saw this trip as good thing to spend it on.
